About Benton

Licensed professional counselor Benton Floyd has worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families for ten years. Having spent his career in community mental health as a therapist and administrator, he is acutely aware of the diverse therapeutic needs of the Hattiesburg, Mississippi area. He founded Lamppost Counseling Center, PLLC to better serve his community.

Benton earned bachelor degrees in psychology and English from Mississippi State University. He received his masters in marriage and family therapy at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi. He is Prepare/Enrich certified, trained in Gottmann Level II, and a Mandt Certified Instructor.

He lives in Hattiesburg, Mississippi where he enjoys eating plain backyard cheeseburgers, fostering shelter animals, reading anything by Flannery O’Connor, taking walks with his son Joshua, and growing flowers for his wife Rachael.
